There was some concern as to natural occurrence of this species, however because of the location  in the state and its remoteness , it was considered a good possibility that it was not an escapee, but a naturally occurring bird.
   2nd round: 7 acc
With other sightings of this species increasing around the state, the question of natural origin was resolved and the photos confirmed the ID of this first state record.

This is a well documented record with a very helpful photo which makes this the first sighting record of many for this difficult-to-document species, that can be accepted as the first state record.

The photos were very helpful in identifying this bird as most probably a female Cassin's Finch. (Key features were the bill shape, eye-ring, long primary projection, under-side streaking and the molar stripe). Because of poor descriptions in many fieldguides and the similar look of the females, the Cassin's and Purple Finch females difficult to distinguish.
