Description: The birding habitat at the Timpanogos Wastewater
Treatment Plant is a series of sewer treatment settling ponds and wetland
habitat along the Utah Lake shoreline.
Directions: Take The 2nd Pleasant Grove Exit off I-15 (Exit #275)
then turn West. Go straight through the next intersection then turn left
after the railroad tracks. You are now at the treatment plant. Drive
straight through the treatment plant until you reach the T in the road at
the ponds. Go right or left, this is a loop road around the ponds and will
bring you back to the same spot.
Birding: This area is good for sparrows, waterfowl, and hawks in the
winter and the regular marsh birds in the summer. Drive the dirt road that
loops around the ponds. Check the ponds for waterfowl and the fields for
sparrows and hawks. Make sure you check the trees along the back edge for a
Barn Owl. Stop at the little turn out at the Southeast corner of the loop
and check the marsh and Utah Lake. When the plant is closed they lock the
gates and there is no way out. Make sure you are out well before closing
time and keep out of the way of the machinery. We don’t want to be an
inconvenience.
