Signing on to the intervention and giving a declaration. THE DATE THE LEGAL INTERVENTION NEEDS TO BE FILED IS JULY 7. Good progress is being made on this. As you know groups are being asked and encouraged to sign on to this legal intervention. JORO WALKER WITH THE LAND AND WATER FUND AND CULLEN BATTLE WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHICH GROUPS WILL BE SIGNING ON TO THIS INTERVENTION BY TUESDAY AFTERNOON JULY 2. Also, if a group is signing on to the intervention then Joro is seeking a declaration from a spokesperson for the group. The declaration is an individual interview with a user and includes questions such as when did you last go and use Utah Lake? How do you use the area when you are there? When do you plan on going again? And how would your activities be impaired if Provo Bay and other parts of the Utah Lake and its shoreline were privately owned? The Land and Water Fund staff write down this declaration during and interview and send it to the individual for their review and signature. (If final approval for an organization has to be later than July 2 that can still work, but the legal folks need to know as soon as possible in order to start working on declarations.) PLEASE LET ME OR PEOPLE AT THE LAND AND WATER FUND NOW IF YOUR ORGANIZATION IS PLANNING ON JOINING ON TO THE LEGAL INTERVENTION AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Getting groups to sign on to the intervention. The Utah Wetlands Foundation has agreed to sign on to the intervention. Many other groups are seeking to gain approval from their organizations to sign on including angling, birding, hunting, conservation and boating organizations. In regards to boating groups there is a Utah Water Ski Club, a Utah Airboaters Association, a BYU Sail Boat Club and a Utah Wind Riders Association that have been contacted. Paying for the legal effort. Having organizations sign on to the legal intervention is the most important consideration. But, there are legal fees and assistance with this is needed. At this point, Joro is estimating that the legal costs will be about $2,000. The Utah Wetlands Foundation has agreed to help pay for the legal costs but they very understandably want this to be a partnership so they will match one dollar for every dollar contributed by other organizations. With this generous offer we need to raise an estimated $1,000 from other organizations and/or individuals. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU ARE ABLE TO CONTRIBUTE TO THIS EFFORT. Press Conference. We discussed having a press conference on Wednesday July 9 or Thursday July 10. This is still a possibility or at least a press release listing contact people, but details would need to be worked out. Bird Use on Utah Lake. Attached is information regarding bird use on Utah Lake and Provo Bay. Feel free to share any other comments you have regarding the Utah Lake Boundary Issue settlement. Thanks for your interest, Wayne Martinson
