Snow Goose Festival Tour

Greetings:
Seven brave birders participated, through snow, sleet, wind and slick
roads, in Delta's annual Snow Goose Festival. Seven of us, in two
vehicles, braved the weather conditions. It snowed most of the way to
Delta. We were the first to stop and check on a rollover near Nephi.
The driver was out of his vehicle and had already called for a tow truck,
fortunately no one was injured.

When we arrived at the festival site the geese were only seen at great
distances. We went into the tent and saw what one of the best displays I
have seen for this event. They had many posters, brochures, and displays
of geese, as well as live raptors and owls. We then toured Clear Lake.

On our return to Gunnison Bend Res. there was a large "raft" of Snow
Geese, mixed in were some Ross Geese. We also saw thousands in the air.

To me the best find was a pair of Tundra Swan on Clear Lake.

Our tour netted 37 species, some along the way some seen at more than one
location.
Among them were:
Snow Goose
Ross Goose
Canada Goose
N. Harrier
Common Merganser
Green Winged Teal
Lincoln Sparrow
Cinnamon Teal
Canvasback
Bald Eagle
Prairie Falcon
It turned out to be a great day. The trip back provided us with clear
roads and an occasional snow flurry.
