Greetings:
Seven brave birders took to the slick snowy roads in the persistent
flurries of snow we have been praying for plus constant breezes. We
were the first to stop to aid a rollover victim near Nephi. He had slid
off the road, rolled over and exited the vehicle, uninjured. By the
time we backed up to assist he had already called a towing service and
seemed calm.
When we arrived at Gunnison Bend Res. we saw geese flying all around us.
They were all too far away except to tell they were our target birds.
While there we visited the display in a large tent, the best I have seen
there. In the displays were many brouchers, and other displays relating
to geese as well as live displays of Owls and Raptors. We then toured
Clear Lake where we were rewarded to see a pair of Tundra Swan.
We returned to G. B. Reservoir where a huge "raft" of Snow and some Ross'
Geese were near enough to identify from each other. We were also treated
by thousands of geese, on the wing, coming and going to forage in the
surrounding fields.
We identified 37 species on the tour.
We saw many of the usual species along the roads and on the water. To my
thinking these are the most interesting.
Tundra Swan
Geese
Snow, Ross', Canada
Bald Eagle
Red Tail H.
Ferruginous H.
Rough-leg H.
Prairie Falcon
Lincoln Sparrow
Canvasback
We all returned feeling well rewarded for the day tour.
Good birding
Reed
