The Hurricane sewage ponds are currently holding an
amazing number of shorebirds. The water level of the NW pond is way down,
exposing large areas of "mud" which apparently is a real smorgasbord for these
birds. Sort through large numbers of Wilson's Phalaropes for a few Lesser
Yellowlegs and a Solitary Sandpiper (the only one with a distinct eye ring) and
an equally large number of Western Sandpipers for the Semi-palmated Sandpiper
described by Rick Fridell. There must be a Least Sandpiper or two among
all those peeps but I didn't find one. Also, enjoy a few White-faced
Ibises.
Morning light is best and be
patient.
