The wintering waterfowl are starting to show up in Cache Valley. On Sunday, 10/31, at 1st dam at the mouth of Logan Canyon I saw 5 beautiful Barrows Goldeneyes (3 male, 2 female). I am sure to see many more in the coming months. I also saw 3 breeding plumage male Buffleheads. Along the Logan river I saw a male Belted Kingfisher.
On the BAS trip the day before (Sat. 10/30) the birds we saw included:

Ruby-crowned Kinglet
Ring Necked Pheasant

Rock Pigeon
Ring-billed Gull
(Benson area: Marina, fields, Bear River)
American Kestrel
Red-tailed Hawk
Canvasback (1 male, marina)
Bufflehead (male & female; also seen at 20/20 ponds)
Scaup (20/20 ponds)
Ring-necked Duck (female; Benson sewage pond)
Common Goldeneye (20/20 ponds)
Tundra Swan ( flock of 7 and then 15 seen overhead in Benson)
Marsh Wren
Sharp-shinned Hawk
Green-tailed Towhee
Song Sparrow
White-crowned Sparrow
Unknown Owl (more than likely Great Horned, which was spooked from its perch and flew across the Bear River)
