Bear River Waterbird Count

Waterbird Count
11/17/05

Total duck count remains high around 385,000. This is more than double the
post-flood average of 152,000 for this week in November as well as the
November average from 1956-1966 of 207,000. Set November peak record for
Great Blue Heron. Bald Eagles have moved in. Notable bird included Golden
Eagle. 22% of birds observed were within tour route and 4% were in the
hunt units.

An average this is the peak period for tundra swans. There were several
family groups of swans in the tour loop unit that were readily observed
from the road as of yesterday. The tour loop unit has a good number of
canvasback, wigeon, ruddy duck, red-breasted and common mergansers, as well
as the occasional goldeneye and bufflehead.
