The male Hooded Oriole was still present in the upper Avenues area of
Salt Lake City this morning, Sunday May 4. As before, it was seen in
the trees just west of the intersection of 18th Avenue and Terrace Hills
Drive, flying back and forth across 18th Avenue, in the company of a male
and female Bullock's Oriole. All were calling loudly.
A quick visit to the Antelope Island Causeway found many more shorebirds
than yesterday. Today there were over 1000 Sanderlings, 14 Dunlin (11
near mile marker 3, north side), and 3 Whimbrel (with the Marbled
Godwits, near mile marker 6, south side). Bonaparte's Gulls,
Semipalmated Sandpipers and many Western Sandpipers were also present.
