I got a phone call today from my old high school teacher and friend who also is a birder. He had a Caliope Hummingbird coming to his feeder. I ran over and got to see it. It was a beautiful male. It came about every 15 minutes. It was rather consistent. It was my first time ever seeing one.
Also yesterday Eric and I went birding to Tooele County. Some birds of note were a pair of Great Tailed Grackles at James W. Fitzgerald WMA. First I have ever seen in Tooele County. Also there was a Long Billed Curlew and some W. Phalarope and a Franklins Gull. We went to the Camp Floyd Cemetery in Utah County near Fairfield. We saw two Long Billed Curlews fly overhead, then a Caspian Tern flew over. We could hear several Vesper Sparrows singing as well. At the StageCoach Inn State Park in Fairfield there was a possible Common Grackle. We never got great looks at it. So keep your eyes out.
