Message: On April 28, 29, 30, 2003 Merrill Webb and Alton Thygerson spent
three days in Southeastern Utah. A total of 130 species were observed in SE
Utah and the return trip. Highlight birds were:
Lytle Ranch: Common Blackhawk, White-winged Dove, Western Screech-Owl,
Common Poorwill, Ladder-backed Woodpecker, Dusky Flycatcher, Cactus Wren,
Rock Wren, Bewick's Wren, Black-tailed Gnatcatcher, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher,
Phainopepla, Virginia's Warbler, Lucy's Warbler, Summer Tanager,
Black-chinned Sparrow, Black-throated Sparrow Lazuli Bunting, Hooded Oriole,
Scott's Oriole
Welcome Springs: 1 abandoned Jeep Wrangler hidden under trees and reported
to law enforcement agency
Utah Hill: Bushtits, Gray Vireo, etc.
St. George area: Black-crowned Night Heron, Solitary Sandpiper, Common
Snipe, Inca Dove, Anna's Humminigbird (thanks to Charlie Sherard), Bullock's
Oriole, Caspian Tern, Wilson's Phalarope, etc.
Zion National Park area: Painted Redstart (200-300 yards up the River
Walk), Golden Eagle, White-throated Swift, Hairy Woodpecker, Cassin's
Kingbird, Plumbeous Vireo, Pinyon Jay, Canyon Wren, House Wren, Western and
Mountain Bluebirds, Grace's Warbler, Black-headed Grosbeak, etc.
Grafton: Blue Grosbeak
For 3 days, the 130 species (not all listed above) proved to be a very
profitable trip amid great scenery.
