I saw a winter wren just above picnic area 4 in City Creek Canyon about 1pm today. It is about the last place you can see the stream from the road as you come down toward picnic area 4. It was on an uprooted stump where the stream twists and narrows and starts a mini waterfall. Besides the wren we saw 5 Black Capped Chickadees, 2 Ruby Crowned Kinglets, 2 Song Sparrows, and 2 Scrub Jays.
At Farmington Bay we saw 2 Thayers Gulls, a Glaucous Gull, a Glaucous Winged and lots of dead fish and many, Herring, California and Ring Bills. There were still lots of Bald Eagles, but not as many as last weekend. There were Avocets, Tundra Swans, Pelicans and a weird rusty breasted Pintail.
Arnie and I also went by Liberty Park twice. It was a total bust. I saw a starling and a gull species on the Northeast side. Bad!
Good Birding,
Dana
