BOX ELDER COUNTY

A RUFF was seen on Wednesday, 12/19, during the BRMBR CBC (JB,KE,JR,ASm,AS). It was seen near
Stinky Springs, about 8 miles west of Corinne along SR 83, in some open water near the south end
of Little Mountain. This is the second record of Ruff in Utah, following the first sighting in
September of this year.

A GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULL was seen at BRMBR on Thursday, 12/13 (JM). It was at a culvert along the
south side of the auto-tour loop.

DAVIS COUNTY

The first-winter MEW GULL, which was seen along the AIC on 12/13, was seen again on Sunday,
12/16 (J&KB). It was
on the south side of the causeway at MM 2. The LITTLE GULL, which was also seen on 12/13, has
not been seen since.

Other birds seen along the AIC on Sunday, 12/16, included a female LONG-TAILED DUCK, seen at the
first culvert, and a female SURF SCOTER, seen on the south side at MM 1 (J&KB).

At Mueller Park in Bountiful, a NORTHERN PYGMY-OWL was seen on Tuesday, 12/18, about 200 yards
above the gate (LW).

Two pairs of HOODED MERGANSERS were seen at the Kaysville Ponds on Monday, 12/17 (SC). They were
at the north end of the ponds, which are located adjacent to I-15 just south of exit 331.

SALT LAKE COUNTY

Birds seen on the Salt Lake City CBC on Sunday, 12/16, included 3 PYGMY NUTHATCHES in Liberty
Park (JL,RS,HW), a JUNIPER TITMOUSE at Mount Olivet Cemetery (AR), a NORTHERN GOSHAWK above the
state capital building (B&GB), a MERLIN at Wingpoint GC near the airport (MS,DW,LW), a
first-winter THAYER'S GULL at the entrance to the Salt Lake landfill (MS,DW,LW), and two male
HOODED MERGANSERS west of the airport (MS,DW,LW).

Five PYGMY NUTHATCHES were seen in Liberty Park on Wednesday, 12/19, in the southeast part of
the park just north of the pond (MS).

A HORNED GREBE was seen on Warm Springs Lake on Wednesday, 12/19 (MS). Warm Springs Lake is
located just west of I-15 at the 2300 North exit in Salt Lake City.

UTAH COUNTY

A COMMON REDPOLL was seen visiting a feeder in Mapleton on Monday, 12/17 (BW). Efforts to see
the bird after Monday were not successful.

A SNOW GOOSE has been seen for about a week at the Tri-City GC in American Fork, as reported
Sunday, 12/16 (JF).

WASHINGTON COUNTY

A WHITE-WINGED SCOTER was seen at Quail Creek Reservoir on Tuesday, 12/18, near the shore
opposite the SP entrance. A first-winter HERRING GULL was also at the reservoir (RF).

Birds seen on the Silver Reef CBC on Saturday, 12/15, included a NORTHERN PYGMY-OWL at the
inflow to Quail Creek Reservoir; a HORNED GREBE, a first-winter HERRING GULL, and HOODED
MERGANSERS at Quail Creek Reservoir; and two MERLINS in the Flora Tech fields south of the
sewage ponds along SR 9 (KW).

A ROSS'S GOOSE and a SNOW GOOSE were seen at the pond at SunRiver GC in St. George on Monday,
12/17 (BH).
