Richard Bond, Georgene Bond and I saw a Common Black Hawk at Lytle Ranch =
on Friday at 2:45 pm at it's normal place. If you don't know the normal =
place, it is about 2/3s the distance from the pond to the plaque, out in =
the stream bed. It seems to be protecting a nest site high in the third =
large Cottonwood tree. Still confused? Hike up river from the ranch =
house to the pond, then continue until you find the plaque honoring an =
early settler. There, pull out your trusty compass and set a bearing of =
210 degrees, magnetic. That should point you at the tree with the nest. =
(about 45 degrees to the left if you are facing the stream bed.)
Two weeks ago, and again today, I found a Clark's Nutcracker south of =
Milford at a farm house on SR 129. SR 129 is the main paved road =
running due south from Milford into the farm country. The house is =
labeled "Phelps" but I didn't see an address (on any houses out there). =
The GPS coordinates are N 38 degrees 21. 408 minutes, W 113 degrees =
00.586 minutes. This bird is way out of place, but seems to be hanging =
around. Both times I saw it in the trees behind the home, looking from =
the south side.
