Made a quick trip to Salem pond Saturday morning. A pair of canvasbacks
were found among Common and Barrow's Goldeneyes. Several common snipes
were hiding along the north shoreline. Cinnamon and green-winged teal,
gadwall, American widgeon, Lesser Scaup, Canadian Geese, Pied Billed
Grebes, American Coots, Northern Shoveller, Mallards, and Ring-necked
ducks were also spotted. No sign of the wood duck or hooded merganser but
that doesn't mean they weren't there. Birding with a three old is less
intense; domestic waterfowl and a loaf of bread often take priority.
