Dear folks interested in the Utah Lake Boundary Issue,

Below is information on the press conference and below that is
information
on the Court status hearing on July 16.

There will be a press conference tomorrow July 22 at 10:30 A.M. at
the Utah Lake State Park Marina. I know this is very late notice, but
certainly everyone is invited to come to the press conference!!!

The following is the media advisory that went out to the press, I believe
last Thursday.

MEDIA ADVISORY - Utah Lake Press Conference

If an agreement between the State of Utah and Utah Lake landowners is
approved, lake users could lose access to 19 miles of shoreline and as
much
as 20,000 acres of the Lake. Provo Bay, a popular spot for
recreationists,
birdwatchers, hunters, and fishermen, could be off-limits to the public.
Already landowners have begun asserting private claims to the bay--to the
extent of posting "No Trespassing" signs well into Utah's largest
freshwater
lake. A coalition of lake users will describe its challenge to the
pending
agreement, and its efforts to keep Utah Lake open to the public. With the
lake as a scenic backdrop, there will be ample opportunity for photos and
footage. Tours will be available.

The following is a brief update in regards to the Status Conference with
Judge Kimball:

The status conference was held on Wednesday July 16. It lasted perhaps
half
an hour. A lot of landowners were present at the status hearing.

On July 16, the judge had the state's motion to vacate the stipulation of
4,481 feet above sea level, the
motion to intervene and the private landowners motion for final judgment
before him.

The five entities signing on to the motion to intervene were National
Audubon Society; Great Salt Lake Audubon; Utah Council of Trout
Unlimited;
Glenn Foreman, owner of Mud Buddy, a West Jordan business that sells
shallow-water boats and hunting and fishing equipment; and Dr. Sam
Rushforth, a local aquatic plant ecologists with an international
reputation
and an expert on Utah Lake. Joro Walker and Cullen Battle were there
representing these entities.

There also was a motion from the federal government. I am not sure what
the
details of this are.

The judge asked for responses and replies to these four motions from the
four parties. After this occurs, he will hear oral arguments on the
motions on October 8, 2003 at 9:30 am in Judge Kimball's courtroom. This
is
a public proceeding and all are welcome to attend. Certainly more
information will be provided about this as the time draws closer, but it
would be good to put this date on your calendars.

Finally, thanks very much to the Land and Water Fund and Cullen for
preparing the motion to intervene!

Another update will be provided after the press conference tomorrow.

            Wayne
