Wonderful day on the Silver Reef Christmas Bird Count today. Some
highlights include:
RED-HEADED WOODPECKER in the Pecan Fields south of Hurricane. This bird was
reportedly photographed, and documentation will be sent to state and CBC
records committees.
20 LONG-EARED OWLS seen in some tamarisk south of Hurricane. Some of these
were also photographed.
A PEREGRINE FALCON in the South Hurricane/Sand Hollow area.
A reported TURKEY VULTURE north of Hurricane
A flock of RED CROSSBILLS in the southeast side of LaVerkin
EURASIAN COLLARED DOVES reported for the first time in this count - 9 (with
one Ringed Turtle-Dove) in LaVerkin
