Red-breasted Sapsucker at Snow Canyon SP

Hello,

Today (3/18) Kristen Comella and an unidentified camper located a female
Red-breasted Sapsucker (daggetti) at Snow Canyon State Park, Washington
County, Utah. The sapsucker was working an elm tree at the Cottontail group
campsite. This group campsite is located within the Snow Canyon Campground
and is next to the shower facility. If you are interested in looking for
the sapsucker keep in mind that Snow Canyon State Park is a fee area ($5.00
/ vehicle). Parking is available around the headquarters building and lawn
area (approximately 100 meters south of the sapsucker's location). You may
want to try and get there tomorrow as boy scouts are scheduled to use the
Cottontail campsite this weekend. You might be able to reach Kristen (SC
Park Naturalist) at 435.628.2255 for an update.

The spring migration continues to build with many swallows and
White-throated Swifts moving through Washington County. A few Bonaparte's
Gulls are also around. Sage Thrashers are currently abundant in Creosote/
Bursage habitat. Last Sunday (3/14) we were with the Summers and saw 75 to
100 in the Flora-Tech fields north of Sand Hollow SP.

Best Regards,

Rick Fridell
Hurricane, UT
