This morning (10/26) at 9:00, there were two adult female Surf Scoters at
Quail Creek Reservoir (Washington Co. UT). They were diving along the shore
between the Dike overlook parking lot and State Park beach. Like the birds
at Gunlock, they spend much of their time underwater. Also at Quail Creek,
was the first-year Herring Gull observed earlier in the week by Charlie
Sheard.
I also saw two Merlins perched in the large tree behind the SR-9 (Hurricane)
sewer ponds. One was a light colored "prairie" Merlin and the other was a
"black" Merlin.
