RE: Red-tailed Hawk image



Tim's great picture is a good example of a first year bird of the eastern
race of Red-tailed Hawk (Buteo jamaicensis borealis group) which should be
looked for here also. Some of these birds that breed in their northern areas
- northern Wisconsin is just on the "dividing line" - are not resident and
migrate south, and perhaps west, in the later fall.  An individual of B. j.
borealis was seen this winter across the border from Utah in eastern Idaho
by Cliff Weisse.

I was on my way home from work today, when I stopped to check the Rock
County Airport (Wisconsin) for any Snow Buntings and Longspurs (none found),
when I came upon this Red-taield Hawk, quite cooperative, and allowed for a
nice
