You may have seen the emblem I use for the Utah Breeding Bird Atlas project. It consists of a black and white silhouette of a nesting hummingbird. I chose this because I could easily draw it from an image I found and scanned in to my computer. Being graphically challenged, I did not attempt to improve it by adding color. This emblem fit my needs for the early experimental phase of the project, but it does not meet today's needs. Therefore, it is now time to have a new emblem, one that can be embroidered onto shirts and hats, printed onto stationary and ID cards, and be a beautiful, much sought-after patch or T-shirt. Accordingly, I announce a contest open to all (wanna-be) Utah Birders to design a new emblem. Utah BBA Emblem Contest Rules o Must represent Utah (favorably, I trust) o Must be colorful in 4 to 8 colors o Must have enough contrast to be readable o Must have large enough letters to be legible o Not bigger than 3.5 to 4 inches across Please submit drawings to Robin Tuck by August 20, by email or regular mail to the addresses below. Please place the words "Utah BBA Emblem" in the subject line. I will collect the submissions and distribute then to the Utah BBA volunteers for a vote. (Go to http://www.utahnature.com/utahnature/utahbba.php to sign up as a volunteer if you haven't already.) The winner will receive praise and recognition and maybe a patch or two. Please send to Robin Tuck, 917 E. 2730 N, Provo UT 84604, or email to robin@utahnature.com. Thank you, Robin Tuck Utah BBA Chairman
