Burrowing owls

Kristin did a fine job finding all those owls on Antelope Island. I hit
the visitors center area about 7:30 am on Thursday and parked in one of the
picnic places next to the road. I scanned the hill for about 10 minutes
and counted 11 burrowing owls. Then I went to the Buffalo Burger road and
saw two in the spot mentioned earlier this summer.
One mile down the road to Garr Ranch on the right side of the road I saw
one more owl standing on a rock about two thirds of the way up the hill.
At Garr Ranch I saw Wilson's warblers, ruby-crowned kinglets, lark
sparrows, numerous flycatchers, western kingbirds, rufous hummingbirds, a
plumbeous vireo, song sparrows, sage thrashers, and I found out from the
ranger that a barn owl had built a nest in the silo earlier in the year.
Nice day! I saw more burrowing owls in one day than I have seen my
entire three years of birding.

P.S I wanted to bird the causeway a little on the way back (about 11:30)
but they were shooting a car commercial and were not letting anyone stop
for the entire area there was any water. The rangers said they thought
they would be there again tomorrow so if you're planning on going out,
leave early.
