On the way to southern Utah Saturday, on a whim I
decided to exit at Scipio and work the fields north of
the freeway. To my surprise I found as many or more
raptors in this area as I have seen along the frontage
road between Mona and Santaquin. Raptors and numbers
as follows:
Red-tailed Hawks (9)
Ferruginous Hawks (3)
Rough-legged Hawk (1)
Golden Eagle (2)
Bald Eagle (1)
American Kestrel (1)
So, if you're bored with the trip and want a break,
try the Scipio area. It will probably even be better
with a little snow cover.
Merrill
