Ouray National Wildlife Refuge General Waterbird Survey

Ouray National Wildlife Refuge
General Waterbird Survey
5/4/05

New species this week: snowy egret, Clark's grebe, western sandpiper,
black-bellied plover, willet, semipalmated plover, Wilson's phalarope,
Franklin's gull, and peregrine falcon. First goose brood was seen about
12 days ago. New non-wetland species include: lark sparrow, Bullock's
oriole, yellow-rumped warbler, and yellow warbler. I am sure there are
lots of other migrants, but those were the ones that hit me on the side of
the head. As if they were not enough of a distraction, the wildflowers
are starting to bloom too.
