Yesterday (Jan.
1) I tried for all three Washington Co. recent rarities (Rufous-backed
Robin, Red-headed Woodpecker and Common Ground-Dove) and totally stuck out. The
weather was beautiful. I know birders did not find the robin on Fri. (Dec. 31)
but did see the Red-headed Woodpecker then. While looking for the woodpecker at
the Wilson Farm I did find a HARRIS'S SPARROW with a flock of
White-crowneds in the back corner of the orchard. Also in the orchard near the
main house was a flock (ca. 20) of Chipping Sparrows. We looked for the
robin from 8 am until nearly 11am. There were lots of birds there but no sign of
the robin. I know people will be looking again this morning.
