WW Scoter and Black Scoters

Yesterday, Saturday November 13, the White-winged Scoter (male) and Black Scoter (female) were still hanging around the south side of Antelope Island Causeway.  They continue to be on the south side of the causeway, swimming/feeding between the bridge closest to the island and about 100 yards from the island.  They were in close proximity to one another the whole time I was there (from 2:30-4:30 PM).  An Eared Grebe was tailing the WW Scoter, diving every time the WW Scoter dived.  They like to hang out real close to shore while doing the feeding (at least today) so it is easy to miss them if there is a small drop-off or vegetation right at the shoreline.

Huge rafts of Eared Grebes continue to be on both sides of the causeway, with larger numbers on the north side.  I did not look for any Horned Grebes amongst them.

I also saw a Jack Binch, but I already have him for Davis County this year. ; )
