Virus Info

I just had my computer checked out by a computer specialist, and found out a
little information about the virus. The virus which Alan is speaking of could
not have been sent by me. The virus is a worm that mass mails itself using
email addresses found in a system. Since the emails were written by me, the
virus cannot attatch to the email I sent. Here is how this virus gets on your
computer:

W32.Netsky.P@mm is a mass-mailing worm that uses its own SMTP engine to send
itself to the email addresses it finds when scanning the hard drives and mapped
drives. The worm also tries to spread through various file-sharing programs by
copying itself into various shared folders.

The From line of the email is spoofed, and its Subject line and message body of
the email vary. The attachment name varies with the .exe, .pif, .scr, or .zip
file extension.

This worm also uses the Incorrect MIME Header Can Cause IE to Execute E-mail
Attachment vulnerability to cause unpatched systems to auto-execute the worm
when reading or previewing an infected message.

Basically, the emails are fake emails, that the worm sends, if most of you
remember earlier in the year this was a big problem, wheere you might get 15 -
20 emails a day from people you knew and they all had fake headerd and an
attatchment. As future reference if for any reason there is an attatchment on
my emails, don't open it, that is why I send links ot my photographs.

So as far as I can tell, unless there was "spoofed" pelican email, than I can't
explain where the virus is from.

Thanks.
