Capitol Reef National Park Migrants

On saturday a pair of ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK were
seen in the picnic area at Capitol Reef NP. They were
feeding in the ripening mullberry trees at the edge of
the grassy picnic area north of the parking lot. The
trees were loaded with lots of other common migrants
also.
The ACORN WOODPECKER was at the usual spot on
Highway 12 between mile marker 94 and 93,
approximately four miles north of Boulter. He is
frequenting the dead Ponderosa Pines on the east side
of the road more than the dead snag in the clearing on
the west side. A pair of American Kestral are nesting
in the snag and may have moved the woodpeckers to the
other side.
  Keep after them!! Dennis Shirley
