I was at Farmington Bay last evening and the trees around the new
classrooms were very busy with Yellow Rumped Warblers, Ruby Crowned
Kinglets, White Crowned Sparrows and several Townsends Warblers. The
entire bird refuge was very active we were entertained by two large
groups of Avocets with their rear ends in the air in a feeding frenzy. I
have watched Pelicans do their synchronized fishing this looked like
Avocet Synchronize feeding. Speaking of pelicans there were many groups
doing their synchronize fishing as well. Saw a few big blues, snowy
egrets, ibis, eared, western and clarks grebes and lots of brown ducks.
There was a beautiful silver and black male harrier skimming the tops of
the cat tails in search of food. Two male kestrels battling over
territory that was very entertaining to watch.
Nothing too out of the ordinary to report but a wonderful evening with
a big variety of birds to enjoy.
Happy Birding Steve
