I was lucky enough to find the/a Green Heron exactly where
it was supposed to be along the canal running into the Jordan
River this afternoon about 5:00. Another lifer for me thanks
to Jack and Mark's directions that they posted. Thanks.
It was on the north side of the canal, higher up in
a tree than I was expectinging. It was very striped on the
neck and chest, not an adult. Neat bird.
Also neat were the families of Western Kingbirds. It seemed
the adults were in the process of teaching the young ones how
to catch insects. The youngsters would take just short flights
off the perch and would clearly miss their insect. They would
snap at insects that would fly by them on the branch though.
Luckily the parents kept them fed with dragonflies every little
while.
I'm always amazed what a great place the Parkway is. Lucky
to have it.
