Bear River Refuge Bird Count

Waterbird/Raptor Count

Water supplies have been sufficient to help fill all our pools to target
elevations for spring migrations. The precipitation forecast is too low to
maintain all the pools and off-set evaporation so very few will be able to
be maintained through the critical breeding period in the summer.
Double-crested cormorants have initiated nest building on some interior
Refuge islands. First sighting of snowy plovers. About 35% of total birds
counted were observed from the Refuge Auto-Tour-Route.
