Millard, Juab County Birding, Pygmy Owl

Well looks like Eric and I weren't the only ones to go out to Millard County today. We first went to Mona Resivoir where we were able to see tons of waterfowl. Including a lot of the common birds and Canvasbacks, Redheads, Ring Necked Ducks, Lesser Scaup and Common Goldeneye. There were Green Winged Teals puffing there head ups, doing some mating ritual??  I don't know. Cool too look at. Also a Bald Ealge out on the shore. We went to Burrstin Ponds where Eric was able to see an American Tree Sparrow. It illuded me. Next we went to Gunnison Bend Resivoir. The Snow Geese were there alright. Also there were some Ross's Geese. What an amazing sight. We were able to find the Black Phoebe. But not one of them, there were TWO BLACK PHOEBES. We were shocked. They were in the marsh area near a beaver dam. They were flycatching, singing in the air and staying close to each other. Thanks for the Great find David Allen. You will have to keep an eye on them to see if they stick around and breed. There were also Marsh Wrens and Virginia Rails in the area. We then decided to go bird Oak Creek Canyon east of Oak City. We drove up to the campground in the canyon to see what we could find. Eric started doing an imataion Pygmy Owl call to see if we could see any Chickadees. No success. then we started to follow some fresh Turkey tracks. That is when we heard the Pygmy Owl start to call back. We then started walking up the canyon trying to find it. We ran upon Creepers and Ruby Crowned Kinglets, but could only hear the Pygmy Owl. After over an hour of looking we couldn't find it. As we started walking towards the car a Pygmy Owl flew out of a Juniper Tree right in front of me. It landed in a big Cottonwood along the creek. It stayed there and allowed us some amazing views. What a beautiful bird. It was a life bird for me. Two hours of patiences finally paid off. We then headed home and saw one of the best looking Ferugionous Hawks in the Leamington area. We ended up seeing about 45 birds for the day. Wonderful day of birding.  Sorry for the long story. Was happy to see some wonderful bird sights for the day.
