Ladder-backed woodpecker?

I took a picture last summer of a woodpecker and I was wondering if anyone
would like to guess what kind it is.  I think it must be a ladder-backed.
The head is partially hidden so that makes identification more difficult.
The second bird is a baby something and he's very cute and fluffy with a
stiff tail.
