Greetings!
There is a Northern Waterthrush at Garr Ranch. I suppose
you might find it most anywhere in the boggy area, but this is where I spotted
it - from the springhouse, walk in the direction of the horse corrals.
Turn right and follow the footpath that parallels the wire fence. After
you pass the wood shed, there is a part of the fence that is broken down.
Cross over it and you'll be right on the edge of the swampy area where
I saw the bird. The yellow wash on the waterthrush looks spectacular in
the sun. Also, a Townsend's Warbler was seen in the picnic
area.

P.S. In an unrelated matter, I was in Parley's Canyon a
few days ago near the Mountain Dell Golf Course clubhouse when six
somethings crossed in front of my car. At first I thought they were
walking footballs, but a closer look made me realize they were some kind of
grouse. Having absolutely no experience whatsoever with game birds, I
determined them to be Blue Grouse; however, when I got home and started doing
some research I wondered if they were Ruffed Grouse. Just going on
location, does anyone have an idea as to which they might have been or perhaps
both are in that area. Thanks for your help!
