This morning I met Pomera Fronce at Brighton.
We later were met by Dave Abbott from No. Ogden. Thanks to great
instructions by Dana Green and The Beyers, we were able to see the juvenile
Northern Goshawk and Red Crossbills. Both were life birds for Pomera
and the latter was a life bird for me. We saw a total
of 25 birds, which included the following:
Mallard
Northern Goshawk
Black-chinned Hummingbird
Broad-tailed Hummingbird
Rufous Hummingbird
Northern Flicker
Western Wood-Pewee
Hammond's Flycatcher
Warbling Vireo
Steller's Jay
Common Raven
Tree Swallow
Violet-green Swallow
Black-capped Chickadee
White-breasted Nuthatch
American Robin
Green-tailed Towhee (juvenile)
Lincoln's Sparrow
White-crowned Sparrow
Dark-eyed Junco
Black-headed Grosbeak
Pine Brosbeak (female)
Cassin's Finch (brilliant male and several
females)
Red Crossbill (both male and female)
Pine Siskin.
It was a very lovely day for birding! Pomera
saw a resident moose before I arrived.
Thanks to Dana Green and the Beyers for their
reports and the instructions on where to see these birds.
On the way home Dave Abbott and I stopped by the
local Cooper's Hawk nest and 3 of the fledged birds were still in the area by
the nest! Got great views!
