Red-headed Woodpecker-Tony Grove

Observed female red-headed woodpecker at 9:12 a.m. 7/27/02 shortly after
starting up the trail from the parking lot. Heard its distintive song
before spotting. She then took flight and passed straight overhead. Brown
head as well as white on rump and wing secondaries unmistakable. Quite a
sight!
