Today a group of us went to Antelope Island under the auspices of the =
Layton Wild Bird Center. I am taking the liberty to report the trip, =
since Bill Fennimore is roughing it in Florida! The fieldtrip was very =
ably lead by Amy Owen and Lanita Larson. After getting on the causeway =
we were joined by Bob Bradley and Tony Jones.

On the causeway we saw the following birds:
Eared Grebe - the usual high number of migrating birds.
American Avocet
Black-necked Stilt (I think)
American Golden Plover (3)
Willet.

When Bob and Tony caught up with us at the marina they reported seeing:
Black-bellied Plover
Snowy Plover (1)
Sanderling - small flock.

On the way off the island others saw the small flock of Sanderling and =
the lone Snowy Plover hidden among the rocks on the north shoreline =
(abt. 1 mile west of the 3 mile marker, going west).

At the parking lot at the Marina we saw:
Canada Goose (1)
Bonaparte's Gull (still in winter plumage) (adult nonbreeding - Sibley) =
mixed in with a flock of
California Gulls
Yellow-headed Blackbird (1)

At the visitor's center (besides hundreds of bicycles participating in a =
race around the island), we saw
Chukar (1)
Northern Flicker (1)
Say's Phoebe, and
Rock Wren (many)

On the way to the Garr Ranch we saw the pair of Peregrine Falcons at the =
hacking tower on the east shore.

At the ranch we saw again a Say's Phoebe by the windmill
American Kestrel (pair)
Osprey (1) some saw it fly over
Ruby-crowned Kinglets (many) in the cottonwoods near the spring.
European Starling
White-crowned Sparrow
Brewer's Blackbird.
Plus the two doe Mule Deer.

We also saw many Red-winged Blackbirds, Western Meadowlark and some =
Common Raven, as well as a pair of Mallards (me)

All in all a very good day. Thanks to the Layton Wild Bird Center for =
their Saturday birding events!
