On Tuesday afternoon I decided to visit Sulphur Springs WMA, to see if =
the Snow Geese and Ross' Geese were still there. As I was leaving =
Corrine, on the road to Thiokol, just west of the Muir Warehouse, I =
noticed a field to the southwest that had some white birds in it. (I =
think it was 40 th west). As I went south on that road I came to a =
muddy field filled with Snow Geese and Tundra Swans, with Canadian Geese =
and Ring-billed Gulls sprinkled in. Was able to look at them for about =
an hour.

The Snow Geese were mainly the white variety, with a few blue morphs =
springled in. I think I also saw some Lesser's since they had the "grin =
patch," but were somewhat smaller.

As I moved to the southern perimeter of the flock I began seeing Ross' =
Geese. The beak was much smaller and there was no "grin patch." One =
of the Ross' had a green collar with "60-A" imprinted on it.

There was one Tundra(?) that did not have a yellow spot on its beak. =
The upper part of the beak was gray, but it was in adult plumage. There =
were a very few gray juveniles also present. In looking at Sibley's =
and it mentions Tundras without the yellow spot.

Nice day! The Ross' were a new sighting for me (lifer)!

I was impressed that those white birds could "muck" around in so much =
mud without getting any on their white plumage. Hmmm. I wonder if my =
grandson could learn that?=20
