Eric Huish and I headed down to Juab County today. Our
first stop in Mona at Main Street and Cemetery Lane
yielded a Prarie Falcon. Next We went down to
Burrastin Ponds and saw some of the usual waterfowl,
like Pintail, Redhead, Bufflehead, Ring Necked Duck.
Rough Legged Hawks were around as well. After that we
visited Salt Creek Canyon by Nephi, which had plenty of
Scrub Jays, and a single Downey Woodpecker. Then we
headed down to see if Chicken Creek Resivoir was
frozen, and it was. So we checked out the Mills area,
and found Two soaring Golden Eagles, Northern Harrier,
and Horned Larks, and some beautiful bright House
Finches. Then we figured we check out Yuba Resivoir.
On our way of the Freeway exit there was a Bald Eagle
Perched on a telephone pole. Also Two Golden Eagles
near the Dam. Next we headed into the town of Levan,
and up Chicken Creek Canyon, where we saw 34 Wild
Turkeys, and about five active Bushtits. We headed
home, and made a quick stop in Santaquin, and next to
the freeway on a telephone pole near the Mountain Land
Apple Barn was a pretty Ferruginous Hawk, this is in
the South Santaquin area. We also tried Salem Ponds,
and Spring Lake, which had the usual assortment of
waterfowl, such as Lesser Scaup, and Common Goldeneye.
A quick stop at the UVSC ponds yielded a Common Snipe.
We saw 40+ birds today, not bad I would say.
