flicker behavior

I was out working in my yard this morning when I heard some calls. There were
two flickers on my neighbors roof doing what appeared to be a booby type
ritual. They were about a foot apart and would bob their heads in opposite
directions while calling with a toik toik toik call. The call went from seven
to twelve calls each time. This went on for about a half hour before I went
for my binoculars. I was surprised to see they were both males. They did not
appear aggressive to each other. What did I see? Jack Binch
