We sent out our mailing list on Tuesday Morning (5/15/01) with no
problems.
However shortly after 9am it was brought to our attention that someone
had
hacked into our mail server and was sending messages on behalf of our
maillist-owner. These messages included the subject "I am very miss
you!".

The second hack occurred around 11am, probably when the hacker realized
about the "open door" in our mail server. This message was a bit more
obscure, with no subject or TO email address. This message contained an
attachment with BIBMLOBI.EXE (19K) which contained the W32/Hybrid.gen@MM

virus. DO NOT OPEN THE ATTACHMENT! Read more information on this virus

The third and fourth hacks were trapped before they were populated to
all
60,000 members of this list. These were other attempts to send out
attachments appearing as if they were from
maillist-owner@rjlsoftware.com

As of 4:00pm CST on 5/15/01, we have removed all traces of this virus
from
our mail server and systems. We have also added extra security measures
to
ensure an attack like this will not occur again.

We sincerely apologize for any problems this might have caused. We are
investigating any other potential security breaches in all of our other
systems, because attacks like this usually happen in pairs.
