Attention low flying aircraft-- I'm walking on clouds today!!!
Lynn and I went to Ouray NWR (Uintah Co.) for their open house today, =
and what a day it turned out to be!! We ID'd 47 species on the refuge, =
and 18 other species elsewhere!!! I got 11 lifers out of this trip!!!
Notable at the reserve:
an Osprey which did a pretty good imitation of a belly flops into the =
pond seeking lunch
a pair of Black Bellied Plovers
a Lesser Yellowlegs
Willets
Long Billed Dowitchers
Black Crowned Night Herron
Marbled Godwits
Yellow Warbler
Broadtailed Hummingbird
Forster's Terns
many Western Kingbirds
Cooper's Hawk
Avocets
Black Necked Stilts
Kathy Paulin and Tom (last name??) pointed out the song of a House Wren, =
but I never did see it or the Bullock's Orioles that were there.
On our way to the NWR, we stopped in Duchesne (Duchesne Co.) to eat a =
snack, went to the sewage ponds and we got so excited about all the =
birds, we forgot to eat!!! We missed ID'ing several birds, but we did =
ID:
Say's Phoebe
2-300 Wilson's Phalaropes, all going in circles-- it was quite a site!!!
Red Necked Phalaropes, mixed in with the Wilsons
Yellow Rumped Warblers, "Audobon"
Spotted Sandpiper
Chipping Sparrow
Near Myton (Duchesne Co.) we ID'd a Sage Thrasher, and just west of =
Strawberry Resevoir (Wasatch Co.) we saw a Kingfisher and then a flock =
of 100 White Faced Ibis's
It was a "Red letter day"!!!!

Bruce
