Painted Redstart

The painted redstart reported by Rob Dobbs on Sunday was still present in
the same area this evening (4/24). It was singing continously, so I believe
it is an adult male. It was in Zion Canyon, approximately 1/4 mile south of
the Temple of Sinawava parking lot, along the large bend in the road.
Redstart was perched and singing from a large Douglas-fir growing part way
up the canyon wall (only doug-fir in the area). It appeared to be
territorial, twice chasing a Virginia's Warbler, after which it would forage
in the Ash and Boxelders between the road and the Virgin River (before
returning to the doug-fir).
