Washington County-Jan. 30/31, 2001



A two day trip to Washington County Jan. 30/31, 2001 resulted in 84 species. The weather was not the best for birding- high winds, cold. Driving down late monday night was one of those trips you like to never have again- blizzard for 120 miles at 40mph in 4wd. It was a long night!  Best birds included;
                 
                           PACIFIC LOON - Still at Quail Creek Reservoir

                           WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE- Still at Shadow Brook Golf Course
                           GREATER SCAUP- Gunlock Reservoir
                           HOODED MERGANSER [25!!]- Ivin's Reservoir
                           CRISSAL THRASHER- Singing adults in brush. Washington, St George
                           WESTERN BLUEBIRD- Lytle Ranch
  Other Washington County specialties:  Verdin, Cactus Wren, Abert's Towhee, Gambel's
                                                             Quail, Phainopepla, Inca Dove, Greater Roadrunner
   Notable misses:  Golden-crowned Sparrow, Ladder-backed Woodpecker
