My best:
Common Raven along the Antelope Island causeway, from October 27, 2017.

After a day of birding at Antelope Island, I was heading for home on the causeway when I spotted a pair of Ravens off the side of the road. I pulled over and got out to watch and take photos, but it wasn't until another car zoomed by and startled them into flight that I got any really good shots. I struggle with photographing birds in flight, so I was astonished when I looked at the photos on the computer and realized that this one had turned out so well--bird in focus, well exposed, and with a clear blue-sky background to boot!

My favorite: Female Rufous Hummingbird at Nebo Bench, from August 5, 2017. Nebo Bench was one of my favorite places to bird last summer, since the higher elevation was wonderful for escaping the heat. This little sweetheart was buzzing around the wildflowers on the mountainside, drinking from them, and she happened to look straight at me right as I snapped this shot. If you look closely, you can see a little yellow speck of pollen on the tip of her bill. I was very pleased to get a hummingbird photo that didn't include a plastic feeder!

Steller's Jay, Blue Jay & Woodhouse's Scrub-Jay, : I have three photos with the three jays and none of them are great but this is the best and has to be my favorite of the year!
