BOX ELDER COUNTY
A LARK BUNTING was seen northwest of Fielding, Utah on Wednesday,
06/16.
The bird was along 18000 North, about 1/4 mile west of 2800 West (CR).
Several small groups of MARBLED GODWITS were seen at various places
along
the road to Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge on Thursday, 06/17
(D&EC,MS).
DAVIS COUNTY
A pair of WINTER WRENS was seen in North Canyon, east of Bountiful, on
Thursday, 06/17. They were about 2.5 miles up the canyon from the
parking
lot, in a thicket along the stream (BO). Their behavior suggested that
they
may be nesting in the area.
MILLARD COUNTY
The CASSIN'S SPARROW continues to be seen in the Wah Wah Valley. It was
seen on Friday, 06/18 (R&TS) and on Sunday, 06/20 (JC,B&MS,LW). To get
there, take State Highway 21 west from Milford about 25 miles to the
Wah
Wah Ranch, which is about 1/2 mile north of the highway, and the only
spot
of green in the valley. Take the county road north through the ranch
for
about 12.5 miles to the cairn on west side of the road. On Friday, the
bird
was just east of the cairn, and on Sunday it was east of the road about
150
yards north of the cairn. This is the first documented record of
Cassin's
Sparrow in Utah.
UINTAH COUNTY
A NORTHERN PARULA was seen in a small grove of cottonwoods along the
White
River, just south of Bonanza, on Thursday, 06/17 (JG).
UTAH COUNTY
Another NORTHERN PARULA was seen near the end of River Lane in Lake
Shore
on Friday, 06/18. It was near where a side road heads directly north to
the
lake (KC).
An OVENBIRD continues to be seen in Loafer Canyon, at the southeast
corner
of Utah Valley south of Salem. It has been seen by many observers, with
the
most recent report from Sunday, 06/20 (K&JB). To get to the place, go
south
on 300 West in Salem, following the jogs in the road to the east and
south,
until you reach Loafer Canyon. Take the road up the canyon to the end,
and
then follow the trail for another 300 yards to the east, where a log in
the
middle of the trail marks the spot, and listen for the bird up the hill
to
the south.
WASATCH COUNTY
A RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD was seen in the mountains east of Heber City on
Sunday, 06/20 (DT).
This concludes the Utah Bird Report for Tuesday, June 22, 1999.
