BOX ELDER COUNTY

An adult GLAUCOUS GULL was seen at Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge (BRMBR) on Saturday, 01/02. The bird was amongst thousands of other gulls (mostly California and Ring-billed) at the northwest corner of the auto tour loop (KE,JR,AS).

Other gulls reported from BRMBR include a 1st-year THAYER'S GULL and several HERRING GULLS, also seen at the northwest corner of the auto tour loop on Saturday, 01/02 (KE,JR,AS), and an adult THAYER'S GULL at the southwest corner of the auto tour loop on Tuesday, 12/29 (CW).

A male HOODED MERGANSER was seen at the third bridge on the west side of the auto tour loop at BRMBR on Tuesday, 12/29 (CW), and 3 HOODED MERGANSERS were seen on Thursday, 12/24 (TS).

A female HOODED MERGANSER was seen at the outlet to Willard Bay on Saturday, 12/26 (CW).

A late DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANT was at Willard Bay on Friday, 01/01 (C&MSo).


DAVIS COUNTY Two LAPLAND LONGSPURS were seen along the Antelope Island Causeway on Friday, 12/25. The birds were at about the halfway point of the causeway (TW).

A flock of AMERICAN TREE SPARROWS was seen at the north end of Antelope Island, in the brush near White Rock Bay, on Saturday, 01/02 (DS).


SALT LAKE COUNTY The ROSS' GOOSE, which has been seen at the International Center west of the Salt Lake International Airport, was seen again on Saturday, 01/02. The bird is in the pond behind the Airport Hilton Hotel, in amongst numerous Mallards and domestic geese (DS).

In City Creek Canyon, a NORTHERN PYGMY-OWL was heard at picnic area 12 and another was heard at picnic area 14 on Saturday, 01/02 (KB,MS).

A FERRUGINOUS HAWK was seen at 11800 South and 8400 West on Sunday, 12/27 (BO).


UTAH COUNTY A WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE was seen along S.R. 68 (Redwood Rd.), west of Utah Lake, about 1/4 mile south of the sign for Mosida Ranch on Saturday, 01/02. A LAPLAND LONGSPUR was also seen on the same day in a flock of Horned Larks near that same location (B&EH).

A NORTHERN PYGMY-OWL was seen in Hobble Creek Canyon near Springville on Saturday, 12/26. The bird was about 500 feet below the entrance to Kelley's Grove (TW).

A late AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN was seen on Utah Lake at the Utah Lake State Park marina on Tuesday, 12/29 (CB).

A pair of HOODED MERGANSERS was seen on Spring Lake south of Payson on Saturday, 01/02 (LR,TR).


WASATCH COUNTY Two male HOODED MERGANSERS were seen at the upper end of Jordanelle Reservoir on Sunday, 12/27. This area can be accessed from the highway to Kamas from Park City by turning on the old road at the head of the reservoir (EL).

A pair of HOODED MERGANSERS was seen on the Heber City Christmas Bird Count (CBC) on Deer Creek Reservoir on Saturday, 12/26, just north of Snow's Marina (MS).


WASHINGTON COUNTY A GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW was seen on the St. George CBC on Tuesday, 12/29. The bird was in the fields along the Virgin River north of the Bloomington exit from I-15 (MS).

Another GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW was seen at Snow Canyon SP on Monday, 12/28. The bird was in the picnic area near the park headquarters (DS).

Many RUFOUS-CROWNED SPARROWS were seen on the Zion NP CBC on Monday, 12/28. Nine of these were seen in two flocks along Pine Creek, one flock just above the bridge, and the other just below the bridge in Zion NP (MS,MT).

Two NORTHERN PYGMY-OWLS were also seen on the Zion CBC on Monday, 12/28. One was along the switchbacks on the Zion-Mt. Carmel Highway below the tunnel (MS,MT), and the other was along the Virgin River just above South Campground (C&SA).

At least 13 HOODED MERGANSERS were seen on Ivins Reservoir west of Santa Clara on Wednesday, 12/30 (MS).


WEBER COUNTY BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS were seen in a neighborhood in North Ogden on Friday, 1/1 (CW).
