BOX ELDER COUNTY

On Friday, 09/04, 70-100 GRAY PARTRIDGE were seen in four different flocks in White's Valley and on the road into White's Valley from I-84. The birds were easily seen as they foraged along the road at first light (GG&MS). To get to White's Valley, take exit 32 from I-84 northwest of Tremonton, and go north about 5 miles to the valley.

Several PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, BONEPARTE'S GULLS, and COMMON TERNS were seen on the mudflats just below the south dike of Willard Bay on Friday, 09/04 (GG&MS). To get there, take exit 354 from I-15, and follow the signs to the South Marina of Willard Bay State Park, continuing west when the road turns north to the marina. Follow the gravel road towards Harold Crane WMA until the road passes along the south side of the Willard Bay Dike. The mudflats are along the south side of the road.


DAVIS COUNTY A RUDDY TURNSTONE was seen at the marina at Antelope Island at about 4:30 pm on Tuesday, 09/08 (KE).

An AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER was seen on the mudflats to the north of the entrance to the Antelope Island Causeway on Sunday, 09/06. Two BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS were also seen at the same location (J&KB).

A SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER was seen at marina at the north end of Antelope Island on Saturday, 09/05 (RJA&KJ).

At Farmington Bay WMA, a COMMON TERN was seen at the south end of the western dike road on Saturday, 09/06 (RJA&KJ). A COMMON MOORHEN, along with three juvenile moorhens, was seen in the same area where moorhens have been reported through much of the summer, in the pond to the west of the main entrance road where the road turns west (J&KB).


JUAB COUNTY A SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER was seen at Chicken Creek Reservoir on Saturday, 09/05. Also at the reservoir were SANDERLING, SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER, WESTEREN SANDPIPER, BAIRD'S SANDPIPER, many PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, and several RED-NECKED PHALAROPES (MS&DW). To get there, take exit 207 from I-15 south of Nephi, and go east along SR 78 for one mile to the reservoir. The birds were on the mudflats at the north end of the reservoir.


SALT LAKE COUNTY An albinistic WESTERN SCRUB JAY was seen in a yard on Blair St. in South Salt Lake on Monday, 09/07 (HK).


UTAH COUNTY A NASHVILLE WARBLER was seen in Manning Canyon on Monday, 08/31 (CP). Manning Canyon is reached by taking the dirt road north from SR 73, 1.5 miles west of the town of Fairfield.


WASHINGTON COUNTY Several CASSIN'S VIREOS and a NASHVILLE WARBLER were seen along the Whipple Valley Trail in the Pine Valley Mountains on Sunday, 09/06. Also in the area of the campgrounds in the Pine Valley Mountains on Sunday, 09/06 were WILD TURKEY, NORTHERN PYGMY-OWL, PLUMBEOUS VIREO, RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH, WHITE-BREASTED NUTHATCH, PYGMY NUTHATCH, TOWNSEND'S WARBLER, and GRACE'S WARBLER (MS&DW).

At the Pine Park Campground, a NORTHERN PYGMY-OWL was heard calling on the evening of Saturday, 09/05 (MS&DW). To get to the Pine Park Campground, take the road west out of the town of Enterprise into Dixie NF, and follow the signs to Pine Park.
