For you Southern Utah birders
seeking an alternate to Lytle Ranch the Dixie Birders recommend the Desert
National Wildlife Range headquarters, a.k.a as Corn Creek. It's a bit more
of a drive but the rewards are there. The Dixie Birders sojurned
there yesterday, the 15th, and found it mighty quiet. Our
reward, howerver, was the appearance of a LeConte's Thrasher, a lifer for us
all. This bird graciously chattered and sang for us and did not rush away
as thrashers are inclined to do. Next best was a pair of Sage Thrashers,
in fresh plummage, who obliged us with close views and pretty song.
Combined with the Henderson
Ponds birding this area, especially in March/April, will more than
compensate for the lose of Lytle Ranch.
