Hello,
This evening (10/15 @ 6:45p) I saw an immature Herring Gull on the dwindling
reservoir at Sand Hollow State Park. It was sitting out on the water with
approximately 8 million Coots, and was the only gull present. Waterfowl
numbers at Sand Hollow are really picking up. Tonight I saw 100's of
individuals and 14 species (Green-winged Teal, Mallard, N. Pintail, Cinnamon
Teal, N. Shoveler, Gadwall, Am. Wigeon, Canvasback, Redhead, Ring-necked
Duck, Lesser Scaup, Bufflehead, Common Merganser, and Ruddy Duck). Also a,
somewhat late, Pectoral Sandpiper flew by giving its distinctive flight
call.
Best Regards,
Rick Fridell
